'The Walking Dead' New Trailer + Spoilers

This post may contain details which could be deemed as spoilers.

As you know, I have been recapping Season 3 of 'The Walking Dead.' (Click HERE for those…) Right now we are enduring a mid-season break with a return of February 10 at 9/8c on AMC.

When we last saw the group, Rick was one head shavin’ away from having a Britney-style meltdown. Glen and Maggie were rescued from the grips of the Governor who had ordered them to be killed. Merle and Daryl (Norman Reedus) reunited in the town square as they were pigeonholed as the cause for the attack on Woodbury.

In the new promo for the return, things seem to find a way to go even further downhill for the group. The teaser opens with Rick describing the world’s demise. A shot of Michonne, Carl and Rick walking through an abandoned town prefaces a recap shot of Glen and Maggie being brought to their knees and Meryl and Daryl panicking as they are moments away from a lynch mob. Upon re-watching the trailer, I noticed a shot in which Merle punches Daryl and knocks him down! (In a previous promo, the Governor demands the brothers fight to the death.)

As it continues, we get a repeat of the scene featuring Carl suggest Rick step down as the group leader. The next shot is of the Governor wielding a high powered rifle before he declares, “This fight will go down to the last man.” Rick and Michonne are next as Rick asks if she “thinks he is crazy” to which she responds “I think he’s dangerous.”

The next scene gives us Andrea being ordered to go to the prison by the Governor. She shows up with a walker as her cover and is whisked in and brought to a still bloodied Glen. He has found his testicular fortitude and assures Andrea that, “if he wants a war…he’s got one.” The next panel shows a nude Andrea holding knife as she contemplates. Meanwhile, Hershel throws the “Ricktatorship” back in Grimes’ face. It closes with Rick standing in the prison yard ready to break.

Lori Grimes (Sarah Wayne Callies) and T-Dog (IronE Singleton) were the first to go, but they will not be the last. Greg Nicotero teased that more regular cast members will meet an untimely demise.

“We’ve established a certain scenario on our show where nobody is safe — and certainly in the back-half of our season, it doesn’t get easy for anybody. We have the whole Woodbury community with the Governor (David Morrissey) and our principal cast. We’ll probably end our season minus a castmember or two.”

Laurie Holden also recently explained her character’s awakening to the Gov.’s evil side when things pick up in the second part of the season.

“Andrea’s eyes are now opening; she had no idea that Rick and the others were still alive. Now she’s learning that the group is not only alive but that one of her friends has been captured by the man she’s been romantically involved with. Her head is exploding.”

Holden goes on to explain Andrea’s next move without giving too much away. As you recall, she already chose the Governor over Michonne…twice. It should be interesting to see where her loyalties will lie after discovering Rick and Company are still alive.

“Andrea has a really good sense of character, and she loves Rick’s group,” she adds. “She doesn’t know they’re at the prison, so she’s got a lot of catching up to do. But I can guarantee you that what she does, her heart is in the right place.”

I get where she is coming from, but I totally disagree with her assertion that Andrea has a “good sense of character.” Did she miss the memo on Shane? Does she not get that a man keeping floating heads in an zombie petting zoo is creepy? I suppose we should take into account her character may not be up on her penchant for diddling the “bad guys.”

We already know that Rick and his small band of fighters go back in to save Daryl thanks to the previous trailers that show more smoke bombs scattering the townspeople and Daryl back in his leather vest and wielding his cross-brow. Also, a shot of Glen’s disgust reveals that they brought someone with them. (Possibly Merle?)

CAN’T WAIT. Accio February 10th! Yes. Yes. I just mixed ‘Harry Potter’ and ‘The Walking Dead.’ I am that nerd.
