The slaying of Benjamin Lewis, the first black alderman ever elected in Chicago’s 24th Ward  is one of Chicago’s biggest unsolved cold cases and suspected of ties  to mob

 Lewis was found murdered and manacled to his office chair with three slugs shot into the back of his head from a.38 caliber gun barrel pressed against his scalp .
 
His death was dubbed ”the return of the rubout” by newspapers and magazines in 1963
